Lisa's goals for 2012

This year Lisa is working on becoming a better person. A much nicer person, someone who is more mindful of her thoughts, feelings, and actions.

So with that being said, I (Lisa) will be working on certain Bucket List items to complete this year. First I will be looking for a homeless shelter & a crisis center to volunteer for. With these two services I am hoping they will help me complete my 'make a difference in someones life' goal. Maybe, maybe not. Second I am already working on meditating at least once a day, including some yoga. I have been making the last 30 minutes of my day ME TIME. 15 minutes of writing in my journals, 15 minutes of yoga/ mediation. Then its off to bed. I have not yet perfected the write every night, but I am getting there. Some nights I just do some yoga and try to calm my mind before I sleep. I have noticed that writing can calm me a bit as well. With knowing that now I can use it as motivation to keep writing everyday.

So lets list what I will accomplish this year.
1. Volunteer at a homeless shelter
2. Volunteer at a crisis center
3. Meditate
4. Write in a journal everyday
5. Make a difference in someones life (maybe)

That is all I have to say for now.

xoxo,

Lisa

San Francisco supperclub

That's right, the San Francisco supperclub. That is going to be one of the dinner shows I go to this year. You may have seen this place on the Travel Channel a few years ago for an event the supperclub has on occasion for Dining in the Dark. Although that event sounds fun, I'm more interested in going to their regular dinner shows.

The supperclub offers 3, 4 or 5 course meals Friday - Sunday, as well as Sunday Brunch with bottomless Mimosas for $25.00. Guests get to kick their shoes/heels off and dine on large beds dressed with white sheets. You can stay after dinner for dancing with world-reknown DJs.

I've NEVER been to the supperclub. But this year, THIS is the year of enjoyment!

'Til next time,
Virg

BYOBW - Bring Your Own Big Wheel

Every Easter Sunday in San Francisco, there is a free event called BYOBW or Bring Your Own Big Wheel. This year, I didn't have my teenagers with me, and my partner is not much of a holiday person, seeing as he didn't really have a childhood. On a last minute whim, we decided to head out to San Francisco and catch costumed adult-folk being kids and having a different type of celebration. I contacted Lisa, but she was not able to join us, unfortunately. Lisa had attended this event in the past, and it is through her that I even found out about this.

The afternoon was perfect: no traffic getting into San Francisco, no traffic in the streets, no fog, sunshine a-shinin'. Pure perfection.

Since the event IS on the hilly San Francisco streets, parking a stick-shift car was looking to be an adventure in and of itself. Surprisingly, I found a parking spot close to the event. The adventure began as we walked down the steep street, and steps carved into the sidewalk, and then walked back UP those steep streets when Francisco realized he left his wallet in plain view in my car, and then do it all again. This would have normally but a damper on my mood, but I was not going to let Mr. Forgetful ruin this moment.

People were walking away from this particular private, winding street, and I thought, "Oh shit! We missed the whole thing." (Insert sad face here.) But determined to witness some shenanigans and confirm with my own two eyeballs that I had, in fact, missed this event, I marched on.

To my joyous surprise, the party was still going on. We picked a safe spot on the sidewalk (by a utility post), and started getting into the party mode. It was definitely a sight to remember and enjoy. Strangers are standing next to each other, giggling with delight as we watch costumed fools careen down the narrow, curvy street in decked out Big Wheels, toddler bikes, and honestly, anything on wheels.

Oh... I. Am. So. In. Lisa and I TOTALLY got this in the bag for 2012!

Disappointed- No WonderCon for me.

I am unable to volunteer at WonderCon this year. I am so sad. I can't afford to pay for myself and my kids to travel back and forth to San Francisco, plus pay for food and items the kids would want from WonderCon. It sucks, but I know I can always volunteer next year.
I volunteered last year for the first time and I loved it. I was hoping to start volunteering every year. When my kids get old enough, they can volunteer as well. I had so much fun and enjoyed the crazy costumes. I didn't take very many photos last year. I don't even know where I put those pictures. I got a cool shirt for volunteering and I wear it all the time. Next year I will be there for sure.

I can't wait for Spring

I am so excited! I have registered for Bay to Breakers (May 15th). This is the 100th anniversary too. I don't have the money or time to do a costume this year, but thats okay. All that really matters to me is completing Bay to Breakers. I will be staying in San Francisco that weekend at Ryan's house. he is such a good host. I will also check out the Greater Body Expo on Saturday May 14th. I have never been to the Expo, but always wanted to go. I don't know if I will participate this year in Bring your own big wheel (BYOBW), but I will be going.
Someone told there is an Aids walk in April at Lake Merritt. I'm going to check that out and see if I can do that too. I still want to do The Warrior Dash in October, but I feel I would need to train for that one. So we'll see if I do it this year or wait till next year because i want to be in good shape for it.

I am still reading and have just been writing it all down on paper. I 'll have to update my book list later this weekend. I have also started trying to learn how to play acoustic guitar through videos on YouTube. I suck! I will have plenty of time to learn more fun stuff now that Lent is here and I have to reduce my social networking. More time for reading, writing, and music. Hhmm sounds a little like school. I am also starting to learn how to meditate and work on my alone time. Working on both at the same time really helps. I have time to focus, relax, and do yoga too. Now that is starting to get warmer I can work on my soon to be garden out back, and finding a volunteer group to work with.

Random No. 08 Read all the Books I have.

I don't know how many books I actually own. Not including cook books I would like to say at least 70. I will have to go through whats on my shelves. I have books in boxes and in cabinets blocked by furniture. I have decided to start with my series collections first. Unfortunately one of my Chronicles of Narnia books is missing. A neighbors kid borrowed it and never gave it back. When I asked for it they couldn't find it. I will no longer allow people to borrow my books. We can trade though. Which reminds me; my friend Raquel has two of my books. I really need to get those back. As you can see I cherish my books dearly. I will be including my daughter Shelby's books as well. She is also an avid reader and has books I have never read before. The series is by Erin Hunter and called Warriors. Shelby also has some audio books on Itunes and I will include those as well, even though I will not actually be reading them.
So I think I will start with The Chronicles of Narnia even though a book is missing. My J.R.R. Tolkein books will follow. I will have a list of the books I read as I go. I will also list start and stop time/date for each book. I am pretty excited about reading every book I own (and Shelby's too). Many of the books I purchased through yard sales and flea markets. Some were given to me after a family members passed. If I didn't take them then the books would have been thrown away. I have books I would not normally read but, I didn't want to throw them out and they are not worth donating because they are outdated. Maybe after I read the books that were unworthy of the world, I will turn them into a recycled art project. If the book is a cook book or reference book I will post it and maybe write about some part of the book I like. So I can at least include every single book.

Lisa

Looking for Adventure

I have been searching for adventures to add to my Bucket List, which I still have not posted, and I think I found a few to try.

The first one is Bring Your Own Big Wheel or BYOBW in San Francisco, CA. It is held every Easter. I went last year with Ryan and we loved it. I am thinking I should buy a used big wheel and give it a try. Plus you can dress up in costumes YAY! Here is a video from last years event.

The next event is called Warrior Dash and it looks AWESOME! So it seems you do a marathon/ obstacle race. I see by the photos you can dress up too. YAY! I think what caught my attention was the fact there was fire to jump over. I thought ooohhh I want to jump over fire. If I do this I will have to start training and preparing my body for it. I'm not all that fit and really need to get in shape. The Warrior Dash would be a great way to get my ass in gear.

Next is Bay to Breakers in San Francisco. This year is the 100th anniversary so I really want to participate. Virginia and I are planning to go. We are trying to get a group together but we'll see what happens. This event also allows costume woo hoo... I don't know if we'll dress up though.

So that is it for now, and maybe I'll finally post the revised Bucket List for all to see soon.

Lisa

What's this all about?

I recently typed up a "Bucket List" in another blog in hopes of attempting to complete some of the items I have listed. Nothing happened...

On January 1, 2011 I decided to start crossing off things I wanted to do. The first of the year was a cold and rainy morning. It's the first time in a very long time that I woke up before 7:00 am to get ready. Yes I know that's sad. My good friend Virginia came to pick me up and we drove to the Bethel Island Frozen Bun Run at the  Rusty Porthole. It was a blast; I was freezing but, having a great time. Originally just going to witness it was on the list, but I have added participating in the Frozen Bun Run Jan. 1, 2012 to my bucket list. It was also the first time I had a Bloody Mary ...
~Virginia & I at the Frozen Bun Run

This week I have been looking through my Bucket List; trying to decide what to keep and what to toss, plus what to add. I thought: Why am I just writing this down and not really trying to do much about it? Well it's time to DO SOMETHING!

Project Bucket List is simple. I WILL complete at least 12 items from my list. One each month & attempt to do two, and add to the list as I check it off. I am looking for people who would like to match up Items on the list and do them together. The more the merrier! I am also trying to get my children to make their own Bucket Lists. I will post my new and revised Bucket List Sunday January 9,2011.
Yes I know we could say "goals" or I want to try new things this year. Having a Bucket List sounds a little more fun to me and appropriate. We never know when the end is near, we need to take advantage of NOW. Too many of us are so busy working and struggling to support ourselves and families for the future. It's great to plan for the future, but make time for yourself and go on an adventure. Even a mini adventure is good, try new things, food and finding ways to improve yourself and your life... Face your fears. Teach someone your favorite hobby. Volunteer. Everyday & every moment can be amazing... Only you can make it happen.

“Let your mind start a journey thru a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be...Close your eyes let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before.” ~ Erich Fromm
