Every Easter Sunday in San Francisco, there is a free event called BYOBW or Bring Your Own Big Wheel. This year, I didn't have my teenagers with me, and my partner is not much of a holiday person, seeing as he didn't really have a childhood. On a last minute whim, we decided to head out to San Francisco and catch costumed adult-folk being kids and having a different type of celebration. I contacted Lisa, but she was not able to join us, unfortunately. Lisa had attended this event in the past, and it is through her that I even found out about this.
The afternoon was perfect: no traffic getting into San Francisco, no traffic in the streets, no fog, sunshine a-shinin'. Pure perfection.
Since the event IS on the hilly San Francisco streets, parking a stick-shift car was looking to be an adventure in and of itself. Surprisingly, I found a parking spot close to the event. The adventure began as we walked down the steep street, and steps carved into the sidewalk, and then walked back UP those steep streets when Francisco realized he left his wallet in plain view in my car, and then do it all again. This would have normally but a damper on my mood, but I was not going to let Mr. Forgetful ruin this moment.
People were walking away from this particular private, winding street, and I thought, "Oh shit! We missed the whole thing." (Insert sad face here.) But determined to witness some shenanigans and confirm with my own two eyeballs that I had, in fact, missed this event, I marched on.
To my joyous surprise, the party was still going on. We picked a safe spot on the sidewalk (by a utility post), and started getting into the party mode. It was definitely a sight to remember and enjoy. Strangers are standing next to each other, giggling with delight as we watch costumed fools careen down the narrow, curvy street in decked out Big Wheels, toddler bikes, and honestly, anything on wheels.
Oh... I. Am. So. In. Lisa and I TOTALLY got this in the bag for 2012!

I can't wait for Spring
I am so excited! I have registered for Bay to Breakers (May 15th). This is the 100th anniversary too. I don't have the money or time to do a costume this year, but thats okay. All that really matters to me is completing Bay to Breakers. I will be staying in San Francisco that weekend at Ryan's house. he is such a good host. I will also check out the Greater Body Expo on Saturday May 14th. I have never been to the Expo, but always wanted to go. I don't know if I will participate this year in Bring your own big wheel (BYOBW), but I will be going.
Someone told there is an Aids walk in April at Lake Merritt. I'm going to check that out and see if I can do that too. I still want to do The Warrior Dash in October, but I feel I would need to train for that one. So we'll see if I do it this year or wait till next year because i want to be in good shape for it.
I am still reading and have just been writing it all down on paper. I 'll have to update my book list later this weekend. I have also started trying to learn how to play acoustic guitar through videos on YouTube. I suck! I will have plenty of time to learn more fun stuff now that Lent is here and I have to reduce my social networking. More time for reading, writing, and music. Hhmm sounds a little like school. I am also starting to learn how to meditate and work on my alone time. Working on both at the same time really helps. I have time to focus, relax, and do yoga too. Now that is starting to get warmer I can work on my soon to be garden out back, and finding a volunteer group to work with.

Looking for Adventure
I have been searching for adventures to add to my Bucket List, which I still have not posted, and I think I found a few to try.
The first one is Bring Your Own Big Wheel or BYOBW in San Francisco, CA. It is held every Easter. I went last year with Ryan and we loved it. I am thinking I should buy a used big wheel and give it a try. Plus you can dress up in costumes YAY! Here is a video from last years event.
The next event is called Warrior Dash and it looks AWESOME! So it seems you do a marathon/ obstacle race. I see by the photos you can dress up too. YAY! I think what caught my attention was the fact there was fire to jump over. I thought ooohhh I want to jump over fire. If I do this I will have to start training and preparing my body for it. I'm not all that fit and really need to get in shape. The Warrior Dash would be a great way to get my ass in gear.
Next is Bay to Breakers in San Francisco. This year is the 100th anniversary so I really want to participate. Virginia and I are planning to go. We are trying to get a group together but we'll see what happens. This event also allows costume woo hoo... I don't know if we'll dress up though.
So that is it for now, and maybe I'll finally post the revised Bucket List for all to see soon.
xoxo,
Lisa
